The Chairmans Address
Students of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering participated in the installation of the first pump under the initiative of KIU YA AMANI campaign on 6th October 2012 at Baraka za Ibrahim Children Centre at Kamulu in the county of Nairobi. The water for use in the centre is obtained from a well of about 20 feet deep and this initiative installed a water pump donated by Davis and Shirtliff Co. Ltd which will now replace the manual mechanism that was being used.
This school was set up at Kamulu by the current director Praxedes Musila who escaped with some children from an earlier school (for the orphans and abandoned children), she was managing during the 2008 post – election violence at kibera.
The water pump installation ceremony was graced by Mr. Jonah Sum, the Communication Director at Davis and Shirtliff Co. Ltd who was the chief guest, Mr. Nyaoro, the Director of Water from the Ministry, Prof. Stephen M. Mutuli Chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, former students from the Department and some of our current students.
