University of Nairobi Celebrates its 51st Graduation Ceremony

The University of Nairobi celebrated its 51ST graduation on Friday, 29th August 2014.  In a colorful ceremony full of glamour, more than 5000 graduands were conferred with various degrees and diplomas.  19 graduands were awarded PhDs, 651 were awarded Master degrees, 2,877 got Bachelors and 35 got postgraduate diplomas while a massive 1508 were conferred with respective diplomas.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by Dr Vijoo Ratansi, Chancellor, University of Nairobi.  The 2014 graduating class was drawn from the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Architecture and Engineering, Biological and Physical Sciences as well as Education and External studies.

Addressing the graduands, Dr. Ratansi asked them to step into world with confidence and pursue their dreams. The chancellor observed that the University was on the road to excellence and that she was happy with various infrastructural developments and expansion of academic and social space for students in the university. At the same time, Dr. Rattansi challenged the university to commercialize research output and create new industries that will create employment for graduates. Chairman of Council, Dr Idle Farah, on his part congratulated the graduands and challenged the university community to maintain a wholesome learning experience for students.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha noted there was need for new facilities in the university in order to cope up with the rising demand for higher education in Kenya. The Vice Chancelor said that the university will keep engaging private investors in a bid to enhance its service delivery.

The Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Graduated a total of 45 graduants in various classes. 1 attained Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, 2 attained Master of Science in Energy Management, 1 attained poastgraduste Diploma in  Energy Management, 4 attained first Class honours, 25 Second Class honours (upper division), 34 Second Class honours (lower division) and 5 at Pass. The department takes this opportunity to wish all graduants the very best in their future endavours.
