DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A GASIFIER JIKO AND ANALYSIS OF POTENTIAL MARKETS.

ABSTRACT

As a result of the sustainability of energy and also reduction in greenhouse emissions, biomass energy is one of the sources of renewable energy which is getting increasing attention as a potential source of energy in future.

This work has involved the design, fabrication, and application of available biomass fuels such as the maize cobs and eucalyptus for the production of producer or syngas for cooking. A brief discussion of the potential markets of the jikos has been carried out.

The gasifier was tested using simple methods analysing the moisture content and ash content of the fuels. Critical parameters such as: manufacturing materials and technique operations, fuel type, smoke and primary and secondary air inlet were evaluated.

The results obtained from the study shows that the gasifier has a better performance with appropriate thermal efficiency compared to conventional jikos. The output can provide modern energy services for basic need and productive application. Compared with other improved jikos the jikos cost is much lower hence is able to fetch more market due to its outstanding performance.
