Friday marked the end of the five day training on laser welding and laser hybrid training facilitated by the department of mechanical engineering. The training was conducted by visiting professor, Prof. Abdel-Monem El-Batahgy of the Central Metallurgical Research Institute, Egypt and a certificates of participation issued to all those in attendance.
The department of Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries will hold a 5 day training of young scientists and engineers on conventional and non-conventional welding processes - arc welding- laser and laser hybrid welding - underwater welding at the university of Nairobi.
The training will be conducted from Monday 5th to 9th of June, 2023 at University of Nairobi tower 4th floor room 404.
On Friday the 19th of May 2023, Members of staff from the department of mechanical engineering organized a surprise party for one of their own Mr. Sam Gachuhi who is set to retire. The party was held in honor of his work and commitments to the department. He was praised by his colleagues as having been easy going and always dedicated to his work. He was keen to ensure harmony amongst fellow staff members and was always friendly and willing to assist both at a personal and professional level. Mr. Sam will be remembered for his numerous contributions to the department.
We are happy and excited to announce that the Nairobi Innovation Week has planned a three-day hackathon to run as part of the activities. This shall be an opportunity to bring forth ideas and innovate around solutions.
A career talk offered to the fifth year students at the department. The talk was aimed at preparing the group for market by offering guidance and mentorship along other useful soft skills needed for the ever evolving job market. The guest speaker was Martin Kariuki, Project manager at Centum Real Estate. Also in attendance were Prof. S M Mutuli and Ms. Fay Airo.
On Thursday, 4 May 2023 at 11.00am in Taifa Hall, Main Campus, the University will be having a Compassion Day to sensitize the University community and stakeholders on the need to support the less fortunate and vulnerable students in the University with tuition fees, basic needs such as food, shelter and other essential services in order for them to achieve their academic and career goals.
The the Nairobi Metropolitan Transport Authority (NaMaTa) organized a four days training held from 24th to 27th April 2023 on E-Mobility and Low-Emission Vehicles. The training was a capacity building program in preparation for efficient and reliable public transport systems operations.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was represented by Mr. Enock Musyoka and Miss Fay Airo. During the training, attendees were taken through transportation planning, transportation operations and importance of E-Mobility and Low-Emission Vehicles.
